Mindset Is An Inside Job. It Requires YOUR Awareness.

If you are reading these words, my guess is that you are looking to make some shifts in your life. Most of us do. I know I sure did. You see, I spent YEARS of my life riddled with anxiety, too afraid to open my eyes at one point. Forget about growing; I just wanted to survive. I was young and did not understand what my racing mind was doing to me moment to moment. The more I thought about it, the worse it got. I just wanted to be healed. A better version of the person I was then. Ultimately, we all want to make our lives better in one way or another, striving for a better version of ourselves.

My guess is that right now, you are asking the question, "How do I do it? How can I really make it happen?" Asking yourself the "how" question is the moment you begin to fail. It's the very moment that your brain says, "If we knew how, we would have already done it," and then you stop imagining and planning. You have just met failure before you have even started. I know this because it has happened to me again and again. The anxiety was in full control, and my other emotions, feelings, and thoughts were along for the ride. I felt completely out of control. My mindset was in the toilet.

Our daily lives are the manifestation of our thoughts, whether actively chosen or passively experienced. This is where the wonder of mindset comes into play, rooted in our thoughts and feelings. It has the power to shape our reality into either a dream or a nightmare. Recognizing that improvement and self-improvement are within our grasp marks the beginning of the transformation. It's about making a conscious decision to show up for ourselves daily, moment to moment.

But what happens if you don’t do anything? What happens if you decide that you just can’t do it? Won’t do it?

You build yourself a prison within your own mind.

HOWEVER, THERE IS A BETTER ANSWER. It all comes down to choosing to be different… choosing the mindset you want to grow. Choosing your emotions. Choosing to be better every day.

GROWING A NEW MINDSET...

I love using the garden as a sanctuary for my mind. The dirtier my hands are, the happier my heart seems to be. As I was healing myself, my mindset, and my life, I spent countless hours in the garden. Growing things just made me feel better. I seemed to forget how anxious I was, and the mind chatter would vanish. To this day, the garden and growing things just make me a better person.

To me, our mindset is like a garden within us, and the seeds we sow are our thoughts and emotions. Just like when I plan my garden, I carefully select the seeds to cultivate. When we think of our mindset this way, we have the power to choose the thoughts and emotions we cultivate within ourselves. These thoughts and emotions are the foundation upon which our mindset is built. When we intentionally plant seeds of our choice, we grow a healthy and empowering mindset. Being diligent gardeners, we water these seeds with mindfulness and nurture them with self-compassion, allowing them to take root and flourish.

Conversely, if we allow negative thoughts and emotions to take root without intervention, they can overrun our mental garden like invasive weeds, choking out the potential for a positive mindset. Mindset, much like my garden, requires consistent care and attention. I had to learn to tend to my thoughts and emotions, pulling out the weeds of self-doubt and negativity and replacing them with the seeds of self-belief and positivity.

Just as a gardener reaps the rewards of a well-tended garden, I too experience the benefits of a cultivated mindset—greater resilience in the face of challenges, a more optimistic outlook on life, and a sense of empowerment to navigate the ever-changing landscape of our experiences. Honestly, this was the only strategy that worked. Everything else failed miserably.

I am blessed to say it was all worth it, though. Now I know what to teach everyone. I know what actually works.

Know this: Change truly begins within. Our life is built in the fertile soil of our thoughts and emotions, where we have the power to cultivate a mindset that serves as the foundation for personal growth and well-being.
